the design process

LET’S WORK TOGETHER

It’s not just about a logo or a pretty website. I want to help you book your ideal client, and grow your business!

I work with creative entrepreneurs and small businesses to build design solutions that make a lasting first impression. Some of the services I offer beyond website development and design are:

  • Branding and identity development
  • social media design
  • print advertising

How it works – the basic workflow of what I do when I develop your website or graphic design elements for your business:

  1. We work together to analyze your goals, objectives and visual desires
  2. I help in your site plan development or graphic design development
  3. You provide content via email or dropbox.  Content includes outline, text, and images/video/audio
  4. I begin the creative process and develop the aesthetic and visuals for your website
  5. I also work on building your website (on a test server) or the graphics for your design project
  6. We meet or I send you a link to get your approval of the design & page templates
  7. If there are revisions, we work together to get your website or graphics for your project finalized
  8. After your final review
and once approved by you, the website goes live. In the case of your design project, once graphics are approved by you, the files will be sent to the printer of your choice.

Frequently asked questions

Questions? I’ve got answers! Just browse the list below. If you don’t see your question or need more clarification, please feel free to send me an email.
GENERAL
If my services fit your needs, contact me to schedule your complimentary consultation at a time that’s convenient for you. Once we’ve had our consultation and you’re ready to move forward, I require a signed contract and 50% deposit to reserve your start date in my calendar.
Once you’re in my calendar, I’ll send you a Welcome Packet that includes the next steps and important links. You’ll need to complete the Discovery Questionnaire, which asks about your business, goals, design preferences, etc. Additionally, I’ll send you a link to a Dropbox folder where you can upload your website copy and images.
I require a 50% non-refundable deposit in order to secure your start date in my calendar. This ensures that clients are serious about moving forward. The remaining 50% balance is due the day before your anticipated launch day and is non-refundable once final files have been sent and the project is complete.
Yes, it is optional. However, I strongly urge clients to participate so I gain an even clearer vision and understanding of your project and aesthetic preferences. This allows the project to run smoother and quicker with fewer revisions. Regardless, whether you choose to participate or not will have no effect on the final outcome.
Branding
A submark is a branding element that is usually another variation of your logo. Typically, it’s small and either round or square in shape. Submarks are useful for profile pictures; stamps or stickers; watermarks; favicons; or as an additional brand element to be used on your website or branding collateral.
A logo variation is typically very similar to your main logo, with only slight differences. Logo variations allow you to have a more well-rounded brand to suit any needs that may arise. For example, you may have a long horizontal logo, so your logo variation would be shorter to better suit a square profile picture, sticker, square ad space, etc.
The Brand Style Guide is a PDF document you’ll receive that guides you on how to use your brand. I’ll include your font palette and tell you what font to use when and also give you the details on your color palette (when to use what color, along with your color codes). This guide will serve as a very helpful reference for future use.
You’ll receive your files via a shared Dropbox folder. File formats include vector .eps, .jpg, and .png. PDF files are also provided for stationery designs and the Brand Style Guide. Once your project is complete, you will receive full ownership of the designs, but I reserve the right to use the designs for publicity and marketing purposes.
Website design
I specialize in custom WordPress, Squarespace and Wix websites. Regardless of the platform you choose, you’ll be able to easily and confidently make changes to your own site.
Absolutely! We’ll go through a design phase to nail the look of your site. Then, regardless of the platform you choose, I’ll complete the development of your site myself. No third-parties slowing down the timeframe, and everything’s built completely custom, giving you a truly unique look.
All of my websites include 8 pages. This typically includes the home page, the blog, and 6 other interior pages. More pages may be added at an additional cost. However, I have found this is usually more than sufficient for standard websites.
Both Squarespace and Wix are user-friendly drag-and-drop website platforms. Even the non tech-savvy can simply make edits and changes to their site confidently. However, these platforms are somewhat restrictive in terms of customization when compared to WordPress.
Squarespace and Wix offer multiple subscription levels depending on your needs, starting as low as ~$19/month on the annual plan. Your subscription includes hosting, an easy-to-use website builder, blogging, unlimited traffic and storage, and support.
Yes! The WordPress websites I build (and Squarespace) offer a drag-and-drop visual interface, so even the non tech-savvy can make changes to their site. Simply grab something and drag it to the new location. Additionally, with WordPress sites, you’ll be able to edit your own site with a clean and clutter-free custom backend.
Yes! I do offer 3 to 4 payment plans to all my clients. This payment plan helps my clients budget and plan ahead of time! To hold your spot on my calendar I do require a retainer of 30%. The reminder payments will be due during the design time.
Booking is based on availability, but my clients book their design phase 3 to 4 months in advance so that we have time to prepare for our project. This means that you will have additional time to work on your client home work, design questionnaire, and gather all the content we will need before we begin designing!
