The increasing popularity of electronic-commerce has fueled an explosion in database use. Database systems support the majority of all transactions occurring over the internet. Once limited to the back-office of large corporations, database systems are now widely used by companies of all sizes. In this course you will understand the capabilities of relational databases for managing business information, and their limitations. In the first half of the course, you will develop the skills required to create new database designs to address complex information requirements. In the second half of the course, you will learn how to write sophisticated SQL queries for manipulating database information across numerous tables. As part of a team, you will also experience the process of developing and implementing a relational database design from scratch, populating the system with data and then designing and running SQL reporting queries against your database implementation.
